Congrats to our New Graduates!!

By: Regina McNamara RN MSN MPH

We encourage our caregivers to continue their education in their area of interest. Of course, being a life long nurse, I am partial to those who choose nursing as a career. This is far from an easy path. Admission to nursing programs is a very competitive. The standards are high, with limited nursing slots. There are often many hurdles with which to contend as tough prerequisite courses requiring completion before one even applies to nursing school.

Many or our staff are juggling families and working with school schedules
Therefore it is with pride that we honor two of our staff who have achieved their dream of entering the nursing profession

Mary Sanders Mary has worked for us for several years and has displayed an amazing amount of flexibility, professionalism and an astute ability to assess a client’s decline at an early stage. Her road to her RN degree was not an easy path and she has had many serious setbacks in her personal life. She graduated in May from Capital Community College in Hartford with an AD in Nursing and is already enrolled in a BSN program. Mary will work as an RN while completing her nursing education. We will miss Mary of course, but will send her off into the world of nursing with proud hearts, knowing that she will have the opportunity to work as a professional nurse and change the lives of the hundreds of patients fortunate to be in her care.

Bridget Ackefi Bridget is an outstanding caregiver who served our clients very well. Her clinical knowledge, gained fromthe many years in her nursing program helped her to function as a caregiver at a very high level. She was highly regarded by the nursing and support staff in hospitals and other facilities when she followed her clients there. She is specially attuned to the specific needs of her clients and their families.

She also managed to study, work and care for her three children while attending nursing school. She attended school out of state, requiring daily commutes.

Bridget received a BSN from American International College in Springfield Mass in May. Cheering her on were her mother, who supported Mary through her educational years by helping with the care of her three daughters. In addition, many members of her family attended her graduation and “pining “ ceremony. Congratulations to an outstanding caregiver about to share her gift with all her patients’ fortunate enough to be in her care.

We could not be more proud of these two young women who overcame many obstacles on their road to nursing. We are certain al their future patients will appreciate their special gifts! ■
